Douala International Eye Center is an ophthalmology center specializing in the prevention, medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases including surgery for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia and cataract surgeries, cornea and keratoconus. – The Cataract
Definition: Progressive or sudden opacification of the lens Clinical signs:
Decline in visiond
Decline in clarity
Double vision
Luminous halos
Glare by light
Alteration of color vision
Surgical treatment: Phacoemulsification and placement of an intraocular implant. This is the only possible treatment for cataracts.
Surgical technique: phacoemulsification
Outpatient surgery
Local anesthesia by drops assisted by light sedation
Small corneal incision: 1.8 to 2.2 mm
Fragmentation and aspiration of the lens, using an ultrasound device (phacoemulsifier)
Replacement of the lens by a foldable implant of two types:
Only allowing distance vision and correcting myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism
Allowing distant and near vision (accommodative or multifocal implants)
